Design work within this office is based
upon the integration of site with structure, allowing the elements of
each design to harmonize with its environment, creating a refined natural style. All of our services revolve about
this approach, while working closely with each client to understand the
objectives of their project. Our office is located in Perth, Ontario, 45
minutes west of Ottawa, providing complete design & planning services including
integrated landscape design.
The refined natural style
emphasizes 5 major
elements: timber, stone, metal, glas
s & concrete. Timber post & beam hardwood is shaped & sized for structure as well as exterior decking. Canadian honed granite
or perhaps natural cleft sedimentary stone can
also be employed inside & out.
Polished or painted hot or cold roll steel add strength & durability, while
copper or stainless steel appeal to the eye & allow for indefinite use.
Thermal formed glass designed specifically for shape, colour & light transfer
may mimic patterns of nature such as water or ice & are dramatic features
timeless in function & appeal. Dyed then antiqued polished concrete can blend
several colours for beautiful & relatively maintenance free floors. Floors that
contain hydronic loops will act as a winter furnace & provide a cool thermal mass for
summer living. Walls coloured in earth tones of soft textured sand stucco
are enduring alternatives & harmonize with tile or slabs of stone or marble.
Current period lighting & individually designed cabinet furniture also contribute to
the refined natural style. Current building & residential technologies
integrate with each design, and may include the use of insulated concrete forms,
sprayed-in-place urethane insulation, radiant floor systems, on demand hot water
etc... and all combine with passive and active solar systems.
